The Berkeley Graduate has some good news to share: once a week for the next six weeks, we’ll be giving away a gift certificate to a business on or around campus!
First up, a $15 dollar gift certificate good at Caffe Strada and the Free Speech Movement Cafe. What graduate student couldn’t use a coffee or snack break? Both make a mean cup of coffee. And Strada is where I first learned that I enjoy danishes, while lately the brownies keep drawing me back to FSM.
To enter, please leave a comment on this post telling us your favorite local coffee shop. One entry per person please; duplicate entries will be deleted. The winner will be selected at random next week. The giveaway is open to all UC Berkeley students and staff. The winner will need to show a UC Berkeley ID when claiming his or her prize at the Graduate Assembly. Good luck!
Update: Nick is our winner! Thanks for playing.

I spent a lot of time studying at Strada, but Cafe Milano is my favorite coffee shop. Not only do they make great lattes, but their salads are delicious!
-
I love Philz coffee on Cedar and Shattuck. Its a walk from campus but a great place to study if you live in the Gourmet Ghetto area.
-
My favorite coffee place in Berkeley is Au Coquelet Cafe on Milvia and University. They have great food and coffee as well as free wifi and, best of all, they are one until 1am! Which is perfect for students who have reading to do late into the night
-
Yali’s is my favorite because it encloses most attributes of my ideal cafe’: ambience, good soy chai latte and, location.
-
I second Au Coquelet Cafe on University. You can get real food, pastries, coffee, and drinks…plus they are open late. Can’t complain there.
-
My favorite used to be the former Wall Berlin Kaffeehaus on Durant, but now Strada serves as a poor replacement.
-
I personally enjoy teh Irish coffee served at Beckett’s on shattuck
-
I love Local 123 on San Pablo. A little far from campus, but worth a ride on the 51B for their back courtyard and incredible mugs of coffee.
-
guerilla cafe at shattuck and cedar. serves blue bottle coffee and dagobah’s spicy hot cocoa!
-
If you can find a spot amongst the undergrads, its hard to beat Strada…
-
Philz, for sure.
-
Musical Offering
-
Not really a coffee place, but for breakfast pastries and scones – Cheeseboard Bakery is great!
-
Brewed Awakenings
-
A hot cider at Strada soothes a soul dampened by the rainy season.
-
The Musical Offering!
-
Another vote for Guerilla…super-nice staff & cardamom iced coffee!
-
ditto on milano! Though Strada is a close second.
-
I like the Musical Offering cafe as well!
